The Girl In The Spider’s Web- EXTENDED Trailer – Clare Foy and Daniel Craig

A Young computer hacker Lisbeth Salander (Clare Foy) and a journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) find themselves caught in a web of spies, cybercriminals and corrupt government officials.

Claire Foy might’ve hung up her royal mantle, but only to move on to another iconic badass. Sony Pictures just released the trailer for The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which stars Foy as Lisbeth Salandar, the cigarette-smoking, motorcycle-riding heroine of the late Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series. The role is a stark departure for Foy, best known for her Golden Globe-winning, Emmy-nominated portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown.

The trailer poises Salandar as a heroine of the #TimesUp movement, “the righter of wrongs, the girl who hurts men who hurt women.” In its opening sequence, Salandar saves a woman from the fists of her abusive CEO boyfriend, hanging him up by his legs and revealing his infidelity and violent history—all while depositing his assets into the bank accounts of his victims. But Salandar’s not perfect, and a woman she failed to save soon accosts her: “I could never figure it out—why did you help everyone but me?”

Larsson wrote three books in the Millenium series before his death in 2004, and did not live to see any of them published. His first, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, was published in 2005 and became a worldwide phenomenon. Writer David Langercrantz wrote two more books in the Millenium series following Larsson’s death; the first is the basis for this film, while the second, The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye, was published on September 7, 2017.

Foy is the third actress to play Salandar in the last decade. Noomi Rapace played the character in a three-film Swedish-language series based on the Larsson’s three books, while Rooney Mara received an Oscar nomination for her role as Salandar in the 2011 English-language remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, directed by David Fincher.

The Girl in the Spider’s Web hits theaters November 9.
