Maroon 5 have mastered the art of music video, and “What Lovers Do” featuring SZA is their latest unique visual offering, the music video for “Sugar” saw Adam Levine and Company crashing weddings, “Love Somebody” displayed half-painted bodies and now “What Lovers Do” (sitting at No. 23 on the Billboard Hot 100) starts out with young kids frolicking in a field — and Levine singing in the form of a sunflower and a squirrel.
Did we mention there’s a swaggy deer bobbing its head to the beat within the first five seconds?
Levine finally appears in his natural form for the chorus. He’s sitting in that same field — just he, himself and a triceratops — before SZA runs by in a flutter of butterflies. And as SZA picks up where Levine left off vocally, they run together through water, seguing into a retro Levine running track.
Needless to say, a lot is crammed into this three minutes and 33 seconds.
