Three fairy tales revolve around a king (John C. Reilly) who must slay a sea monster, a giant flea and a womanizing ruler (Vincent Cassel) who’s in for a surprise. The bitter quest of the Queen of Longtrellis, (is played by Salma Hayek) is one of the stories taken from the 17th century fairytales by Giambattista Basile.
Italian director Matteo Garrone made his name with realist mob movie Gomorrah, but for his new film he turned to 17th century fairytales he says ‘ Don’t try to understand it – just feel it’.
