Shawn Mendes performs There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back LIVE at the MTV EMAs 2017 in London!
“This guy can sing… he can write amazing music… he can play a bit of that good ol’ keys, the piano… I mean, it’s like c’mon,” host Rita Ora hyped the crowd at the 2017 MTV EMAs on Sunday (Nov. 12), before introducing “the gorgeous Shawn Mendes.”
Mendes played his most recent Billboard Hot 100 top 10 hit, “There’s Nothing Holding Me Back,” giving a blistering performance of the song that culminated in a surprisingly heavy rock breakdown at the end. “Holding Me Back” had already won the EMA for best song earlier in the evening, with Mendes thanking his “best friends, Teddy [Geiger], Scott [Harris] & Geoff [Warburton], for writing this song with me.”
Mendes also won the Biggest Fans award earlier in the evening, and is still up for Best Artist — against Ariana Grande, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift.
