Living in Los Angeles must be some kind of fantasy. You’re just hanging out by pools in big hats, star-gazing in the middle of the day. Actually, living in LA is a lot of traffic and taco trucks. The dream of endless summer is just the smoke and mirrors, or in the case of Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa’s new music video, it’s hazy pastel sets and puppets — but what a scene it is!
“One Kiss” continues Harris’ new wave of retro vibes. It’s a tropical house tune, but not in the sense that it’s got steel drums and pitched vocal samples. It stings with humidity and sweat like a foggy warehouse rave in the ’90s underground but lingers sweet like a cocktail that sips dangerously easy. The music video pulls on that vibe with classic Hollywood character. Lipa looks ravishing in vibrant vintage wear; Harris looks stoic and cool as a poolside waiter, but the funky puppets, with their handlers showing, really steal the show.
