twenty one pilots: Jumpsuit

Number one rule of being part of the banditos: Wear a jumpsuit with yellow stripes, as indicated by Twenty One Pilots’ new single “Jumpsuit.” The song follows Clancy, and listens can put themselves in his shoes (or clothes, rather) along his rebellious journey away from Dema, an imaginary walled city representing depression.

Tyler Joseph petitions to be covered by the dark suit — he repeats “Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me” throughout the chorus and verses — but his plea is for his security from the bishops who rule Dema and cannot see the banditos because of the yellow.

The bishops represent the vocalist’s demons, and the protective yellow seen in the music video provides him a sliver of hope. The single, alongside “Nico and the Niners,” which was also released Wednesday (July 11), will be available on their upcoming studio album Trench, which will be available Oct. 5 under Fueled by Ramen.

Lyrics :

I can’t believe how much I hate
Pressures of a new place roll my way
Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me
Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me
I crumble underneath the weight
Pressures of a new place roll my way
Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me
Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me

Spirits in my room, friend or foe?
Felt it in my youth, feel it when I’m old
Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me
Dusting off my (jumpsuit, cover me)

I can’t believe how much I hate
Pressures of a new place roll my way
Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me
Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me

I’ll be right there
But you’ll have to grab my throat and lift me in the air
If you need anyone, I’ll stop my plans
But you’ll have to tie me down and then break both my hands
If you need anyone, I’ll be right there
But you’ll have to grab my throat and lift me in the air (if you need anyone)
If you need anyone (If you need anyone)
If you need anyone (if you need anyone)
If you need anyone

I can’t believe how much I hate
Pressures of a new place roll my way
Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me
Oh, jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me

Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me!
Jumpsuit, jumpsuit, cover me!
