In Bermuda – Emirates Team New Zealand capsized during race 4 of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Challenger Playoffs in Bermuda on June 6 2017. The team confirmed that all sailors are safe and accounted for after capsizing.
In describing what happened, the AC said, “Emirates Team New Zealand pitch-poled at high-speed moments after the start, the bows digging in and boat tumbling forward, its sterns in the air, three crew pitched into the water, the rest hanging on in the cockpits.”
The 35th America’s Cup is taking place in Bermuda from May – June 2017, with defending champion Oracle Team USA, Artemis Racing from Sweden, Emirates Team New Zealand, Land Rover BAR from Great Britain, Groupama Team France, and Softbank Team Japan all competing in the sailing regatta.
In 2017, the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifiers and Challenger Playoffs, as well as the America’s Cup Match presented by Louis Vuitton, are being raced in the new America’s Cup Class – a very fast, foiling, wing-sailed catamaran, manned by six crew; helmsman, wing trimmer, tactician/grinder and three grinders
